Monorail Beam Clamp

For this project, our customer needed a specialized tool to attach a monorail crane to the underside of the ceiling trusses in a large steel building without modifying the existing trusses.

We first sized the beam that would carry the hoist/trolley based on the truss span and maximum loads and developed a two-piece weldment that would be secured to each truss using clamping methods to avoid welding/cutting the truss.

The two-piece design allowed the clamp to be attached to the flange of the monorail support beam so the system was connected to the ceiling trusses without modification.

We utilized our CAD and FEA software to optimize the design of the clamp for strength and safety. Several clamps and multiple beams were used to allow the hoist/trolley to travel the entire length of the building.
